Putting someone on the guestlysst is one of the most fun parts of the job. The look on someone's face when they get to
"skip the line" and meet the band is a view I will never get tired of.
We were touring with Hinder a few years ago before I was managing. It was a sold out show and I was running around from soundcheck on with my phone capturing as much video as possible for social media before submitting the guestlysst.
At this point in my career, I wasn't traveling full time with the band yet and had come in just for the night, so I would put myself on the guestlysst to keep it easy for security at the club, except this night, I turned in the guestlysst with everyone's name on it, except mine.
I had forgotten my own name for my own show and missed the first half of our set because I remembered everyone else but me.
How can you remember to not forget yourself?
When we're focused on our friends, our family, each other, our children, and the world, how can we be careful when it comes to ourselves?
I did the whole "mindful" thing for a long time and used to think "careful" was negative, so I was trying to be "mindful" of everything. In my search for perfection, I remembered that I don't want to be mind-full, I want to be mind-lyss and being care-full, I could be full of care for whatever I was present with, or mindlyss of.
Be be full of care when it comes to yourself. Treat yourself like a guest in your own home, especially while we're spending more time there. Use the "nice plates" and the "good" silverware. Put yourself on the guestlysst.
